The OMRON Automation Laboratory was established by OMRON in 2006, and its opening ceremony was attended by Ali Coşkun, the Minister of Industry at the time. The laboratory has been designated as a shared space for training programs provided by OMRON and for PLC-related courses at our school.
The laboratory can be broadly divided into two sections. The first is the main section, consisting of computers and PLCs, which is frequently used in PLC-based courses; the second consists of additional equipment (motor drivers, sensors, and other automation components).
Due to the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering’s relocation to the Davutpaşa campus and the commencement of instruction in its new building there starting in the Fall 2011–2012 semester, the OMRON Automation Laboratory was also moved to the faculty building in Davutpaşa. During this time, improvements were made to the laboratory and the equipment used in terms of both quality and quantity, resulting in a comprehensive modernization effort throughout the laboratory.
Following the most recent upgrades, a total of 20 PLC sets and 40 computers are available for student use. Many of the devices in the laboratory can communicate via Ethernet. The other equipment in the laboratory enables students to conduct more advanced studies.
